Faith Formation for Adults
As you learn and grow in faith, you will find numerous study courses and groups that can support your spiritual growth at Los Altos United Church of Christ. These include theological and biblical studies, book groups, and conversations about social justice issues. Our approach to biblical study is
Below is a list of our active groups and current offerings.
First Sunday Adult Group
First Sunday | 8:30 am | Patterson Hall
The First Sunday group is currently engaged in a study called “First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom of God.” This curricula is DVD-based and features John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg “on location” throughout the Galilee and Jerusalem. Reading packets are available on the bookshelf outside Pastor Libby's office door.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study
Tuesdays | 10 am
We use curricula from the United Church of Christ's Still Speaking writer's group. We're currently working through the book of Genesis. Over the last two years, we've studied the books of Ecclesiastes, Mark, Acts and I & II Corinthians.
We meet every Tuesday at 10 am in Patterson Hall. We always start with coffee and checking in with each other. There are always lots of laughter. Drop ins and newcomers are always welcome.
Credo Book Group
Last Tuesdays | 7:00 pm | Patterson Hall
Our evening group is called “Credo," which means "I believe." Pastor Libby leads this group. We are currently using a "Great Courses" lecture series on the Old Testament by biblical scholar Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. In past months we've read through and discusses the books The Great Spiritual Migration by Brian McLaren, Grounded by Diana Butler Bass and The Witness of Religion in an Age of Fear by the Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, the former General Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and former General Counsel of the National Council of Churches.
Membership Exploration Class
The Membership Exploration Class is designed for people who are considering membership with Los Altos United Church of Christ. This class, led by our pastor, explores the history and polity of the United Church of Christ, the faith and theology of Los Altos UCC, and the meaning of church membership and opportunities to serve the church.
Classes are scheduled periodically throughout the year.
