From Our Pastor
You all know the old saying, April showers bring May flowers. Well, we had only a couple April showers in Long Beach, but we are graced with an abundance of blooms and blossoms here at LAUCC. Many of us are connected to LAUCC primarily through our participation in Sunday morning worship. Let me share with you some of the other “blossoms” that are a part of our church community.
On any given Tuesday morning, you’ll find ten or twelve people gathered over coffee, deep sharing and Bible study. Come by on a Wednesday evening, and the music of singing, piano and laughter will delight your ears. On Wednesday afternoons, school children find safe and welcoming space where they have snacks, do homework, enjoy crafts, and make friends. On the third Tuesday of each month, our Moderator Lori DeLaney opens each Leadership Council meeting by inviting each person to share something that we can celebrate about our church. On the last Tuesday evening of each month, we currently gather to have our understanding of Old Testament scripture expanded through video lectures by Amy-Jill Levine. On the third Thursday of each month, the ladies of Priscilla Circle eat lunch and then work on projects that brighten our common life. We are richly blessed.
On May 20 we will celebrate Pentecost – the day we mark as the beginning (or the birthday) of the church. The day will be extra special this year, as we plan to confirm two of our high school youth, Charlie McQuinn and Shawn Souza, on Pentecost Sunday. The liturgical color for Pentecost and for all celebrations of the church – like confirmation, ordination and installations – is red, so try to remember to wear red on May 20! There will be a very special reception that day as we celebrate with Charlie and Shawn. You won’t want to miss it!
See you in church!
